Cross Country: Dragons outrun Orange, boys win by 11 points

The WMHS Cross Country Teams each scored a win over Orange at Home last Wednesday. The boys, led by Josh Bridges’ first place finish, won by 11 points, 23 to 34, their most decisive victory in the rivalry. Josh held off an Orange runner, winning by 3 seconds at 19:28. John Allen placed third at 19:51. The Dragons were helped by impressive finishes by David Shaulis, 5th at 21:50, and Sophmore Brandon Davis, 6th at 21:57, and Shawn Harlow in 8th at 22:38, clinching the win for WMHS. Also finishing for the Dragons were Nick Sutton, 9th at 23:19, Paul Risk 13th at 23:50, Matt Hagg 16th at 24:39, Travis Lamb, 17th at 25:02, Aaron Allers, 18th at 26:58 and Tyler Boyer 19th at 29:34.
The girls won by forfeit as Orange failed to field a full squad. Alexandra Ladd had her first cross country victory, crossing the finish at 24:47, again edging Brooke Baugher, who had an excellent 2nd place finish at 24:50. Amelia Willenborg also placed with 3rd at 25:35. Coming in 5th for the Dragons was freshman Amber Pruitt at 28:43. In 6th was senior Ashley Blackwell, who ran her final WMHS home race after “holding the fort” for the girls team since her freshman year. Mia Tonelli finished her first 3.1 mile course and came in 8th, and Samantha Powell and Brianna List also recorded finishes.
