Madison County’s boys basketball team prevailed in grand fashion over Altavista, 41-38, in front of tons of raucous Mountaineer faithful in the Group A, Division 1 final at VCU’s Siegel Center on Friday to claim its first state title in 33 years. The senior-laden bunch put on a memorable last performance — which was threatened late in the game — in front of the mostly blue-and-white-clad crowd to capture the trophy.

The General Assembly approved a measure Saturday that would allow campus threat assessment teams to discuss internally criminal and mental health records of students deemed to be a potential threat to safety.
