The need for textbooks was also mentioned - though at the Board’s budget workshop held earlier this month, Allen called attention to the fact that those textbooks had not been purchased.
Perhaps as a result, the Board of Supervisors upped its allocation to the District following the public hearing. The Board upped its allocation to the District again prior to passing the budget at its next regularly scheduled meeting.

The Stanardsville Town Council will meet on Wednesday, April 30, to appoint the next mayor of the town, following the death of Jerry Bortner on March 21.
Bortner served as mayor of Stanardsville for 14 years. His four-year term would have expired in 2010. 

Tough Talk continues on budget

Greene County is facing a 3.94 percent – or $102,543 – reduction in state aid, but it will not be laying that burden on taxpayers, according to Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Steve Catalano.

Greene’s School Board has requested $693,000 in local funding, but the County Board of Supervisors is saying all it’s going to get is the equivalent of an estimated $207,000.

The Club, started more than three years ago and sponsored by the Greene County Ruritans, consists of sophomores, juniors and seniors who wish to serve their school and community. Its members have participated in, among other things, a road cleanup. They’ve manned the Ruritan float in the annual Parade of Lights. And they’ve collected donations for the County Animal Shelter and Kid Pan Alley, a Ruritan program that brings musicians into the schools.
