The Greene County Republican Committee has chosen its new chairman and its delegates to the State and 5th District conventions.
Stanardsville’s Gary Lowe will be keeping his seat as County party chair.
“This will be starting my sixth and seventh year representing the Committee,” said Lowe, who explained that he was the only candidate for the seat because he was the only candidate who pre-filed.
“You have to pre-file for the call that we put in the newspaper for any resolutions or a chairman … I was the only guy that did that.”
Delegates chosen to represent the Committee at the state convention, to be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond May 30 and 31 are: Sonny Clay of Stanardsville; Kenneth Colby of Stanardsville; Marnie Deaton of Ruckersville; David Dickey of Stanardsville; Flint Engleman of Ruckersville; John Gress of Dyke; Joe Miller of Stanardsville; Gerald and Kimberly Moore of Ruckersville; Jacob Parrish of Stanardsville; Keaton Rodland of Ruckersville; and, Roger Schweikert of Ruckersville.
Delegates chosen to represent the Committee and the 5the District convention, to be held April 26 at Hampden-Sydney College in Hampden-Sydney are: Kenneth Colby of Stanardsville; Marnie Deaton of Ruckersville; Frank Demko of Ruckersville; David Dickey of Stanardsville; Flint Engleman of Ruckersville; Jerry Gore of Stanardsville; John Gress of Dyke; Lowe; Patrick and Dorothy Mellot of Free Union; Joe Miller of Stanardsville; Keaton and Nancy Rodland of Ruckersville; Roger Schweikert of Ruckersville; and, Frank Wolkowicz of Stanardsville.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do; we’ve got a real strong nucleus of people,” says Lowe. “I look forward to working with the old-timers and the new people that have signed up.”
Some of those new members, adds Lowe, are young people.
“They’re graduating from high school; they’re getting involved; they’re members of the committee; they’re going to go to the district; I think it’s just wonderful. The government teacher at the high school has really encouraged young folks to register. Even if they’re not 18 (now), if they’re 18 by November, they can register.”
Lowe says the Committee continues to encourage new membership of all ages. “If they want to be on the committee, they need to (write) a letter stating their desire and the committee would vote on those individuals.
Once voted in, new members are required to swear allegiance to the Republican creed, Lowe says.
The letter should be addressed to Lowe and sent to his home address at 308 Main Street, Stanardsville, Virginia 22973
