Two new traffic signals were activated here November 21 to provide traffic control at the entrances to the Gateway Center in Ruckersville.
The signals, on Route 29 just north of the Route 29/33 intersection and on Route 33 just west of the 29/33 intersection, have been flashing for several days to accustom motorists to their location. They will be placed in full-cycle operation later this afternoon.
The signals will improve safety for motorists entering and leaving the development as well as the efficiency of traffic flow through the intersections where the signals are located. Motorists making left turns at both entrances will have a protected left-turn arrow phase of the signal rather than turning through breaks in the oncoming traffic. The installation of signals at those intersections was a requirement of the development plans for Gateway Center and the cost for the signals was paid by the developers.
Highway safety is everyone’s responsibility. Please remember the following:
• Buckle up.
• Avoid distractions.
• Share the road.
•Drive drug- and alcohol-free.
• Obey speed limits.
