To the Editor:
Ever since our U.S. Representative Virgil Goode made disparaging and divisive remarks about Muslim immigrants in a December 2006 letter to a constituent, I have been convinced that we can do better than Goode.
Fortunately, we have a capable and worthy candidate for Congress in Tom Perriello. According to his official website, perrielloforcongress.com, Perriello showed leadership when he was young by earning Eagle Scout status. After graduating from Yale Law School, he worked with local pro-democracy groups in Sierra Leone. Later he helped found faith-based organizations like Faithful America.org and Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good. At a time when our country needs to rebuild bridges with other countries, we would be well served with a representative who helps bring people together.
Since December 2006, the Fifth District of the Commonwealth of Virginia has experienced grade inflation, and Goode is no longer good enough. We can do better than Goode.
