To the Editor:
We wish to express our gratitude to you for your article on the economy focusing on the shortage of food which affects our food supply (Local food banks struggle with less, The Greene County Record, July 10).
The article, and the follow-up interview with WVIR-TV, has already resulted in phone calls, checks, and pledges for the fall.
Today we have been assured that the Food Bank will continue to provide its member food pantries with as many food items as possible.
We will continue to supplement those items from donated supplies and the best prices we can negotiate with other suppliers. To all of our partner human service agencies, and all of our clients, we wish to reaffirm our commitment to feed as many as we possibly can.
Now, a big thank you to all of the schools, organizations, and area churches who have supported us financially and with food drives over the past 13+ years. Another big thank you goes to all of the new supporters who have contacted us over the past three days, saying “Our check is in the mail” or pledging a financial fundraiser or food drive for the fall.
We don’t think anyone in Greene County should go to bed hungry, and with the community’s help, they won’t.
The Food Pantry has been serving Greene County since 1995 and is sponsored by the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network, Inc. and the Stanardsville Baptist Church. It is open for distribution 10 a.m. - 12-noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the third Wednesday night from 4-6 p.m. You may come in or call us during those hours at (434) 985-8000.
