“Beloved now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is,” I John 3:23.
In order to be a “son of God,” one must first receive Christ into his heart (accept Jesus as his personal Savior). John 1:12 teaches, “As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.”
Now as “sons of God,” we are anticipating our Lord’s return. Yes, He is returning as promised for all those who have truly believed that He came the first time to die on the cross for their sins.
When He returns, “we shall be like Him.” We will be perfect in every way-our soul, our spirit, and our body. Nevertheless, “it doth not yet appear what we shall be.” What will a perfect soul, a perfect spirit, and a perfect body look like? This is a good question, and we must wait for the answer until “He shall appear.”
