Greene residents interested in helping plan the future of county roads, bus routes, park-and-ride opportunities and non-motor transportation, can provide their thoughts, concerns and ideas at a meeting with Thomas Jefferson Planning District.
It will be hosted by the Ruckersville Citizens Council at the Ruckersville Fire Hall on Tuesday, August 5 at 7 p.m.
The county has received a $165,000 planning grant from VDOT and this will be the first meeting with citizens as part of that process.
This grant will help Greene leaders with transportation planning around the entire county, including proposing alternatives for Stanardsville and Ruckersville. Greene’s Comprehensive Plan update, designed to provide guidance to county personnel in decision making over the next five years, will also be getting underway shortly, and will be discussed.
Guests for the discussion will include Bill Wanner of Thomas Jefferson Planning District, Jason Espie of Renaissance Planning Group, and Chuck Proctor, VDOT Transportation Planner for our district, as well as representatives of our county government, including Greene County Planning and Zoning Administrator director, Bart Svoboda.

Well this will certainly be a big waste of time. The last Green County Planning Board meeting I attended regarding roads in Greene the VDOT rep said there is no money for Greene county. He said we needed to pick 1 or 2 projects, but that was it. This is pointless. This county needs its roads widened plain and simple. Preddy Creek Rd. isn’t wide enough for fire trucks to travel on it with out going over the yellow lines let alone walk or ride a bike on it and there is no side of the road, its a run off ditch. Everyone knows this, the roads are to narrow.
