HEALTH NEWS: Imminizations-Why?
Our immune system is amazing! It is constantly building up protection from outside “invaders” with antibodies that seek out and destroy unwelcome viruses or bacteria. Immunizations work by “tricking” our immune system or rather giving our immune system a mini workout
Fun field trip at the Rapidan River
Half the sixth grade students from WMMS went on an exciting field trip to the Rapidan River to see how healthy the stream is. Some of their favorite parts were getting wet, catching and identifying bugs, and the visual assessment. The students tested the pH level, which was about 5.5. That means the river is in a good condition.
Memories of Main Street: Stanardsville looks back
The Town contained “stores galore, with four soda fountains and ice cream by the ton,” Bickers wrote. “We have the Red Cross and Ladies Aid Society, a large Sunday School where all go except a few moss backs and roughnecks,” Bickers wrote. “We have a High School, parent-teachers society and a community league that meets on the hill. And we have good town officers … Ours is a model town.”
It was in Bickers’ “model town” that Martha Jeraldine Morris Tata grew up over the course of the next two decades
Republican Committee chair, delegates chosen
Stanardsville’s Gary Lowe will be keeping his seat as County party chair.
“This will be starting my sixth and seventh year representing the Committee,” said Lowe, who explained that he was the only candidate for the seat because he was the only candidate who pre-filed.
Board to hear from citizens on budget
The need for textbooks was also mentioned - though at the Board’s budget workshop held earlier this month, Allen called attention to the fact that those textbooks had not been purchased.
Perhaps as a result, the Board of Supervisors upped its allocation to the District following the public hearing. The Board upped its allocation to the District again prior to passing the budget at its next regularly scheduled meeting.
