Libraries now provide a wide variety of e-resources. The Greene County Library, as part of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library system, subscribes to online databases in 12 different subject categories, containing thousands of newspaper and magazine articles in addition to biographical and medical information, genealogical sources, encyclopedia articles, and general reference materials. There are even specific databases for children to help them with their homework. And the good news is that the databases are available 24/7 from home, school or work. All you need is a library card to gain remote access. Each month there are approximately 6,000 uses of the online databases available through the Library’s database website
Below are highlights of some of the databases:
ProQuest: a wonderful source for full-text newspaper articles from The Christian Science Monitor, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. Now there is no need to subscribe to a particular newspaper online - you can get this information for free through the J-MRL database website.
Health and Wellness Resource Center: Contains magazines, journals, newspapers, reference sources, and reliable information on: diabetes, obesity, cancer, depression, prescription drugs, nutrition, herbal remedies, alternative treatments, and many other diseases and conditions. There are also trusted links to more information on health-related topics.
NetAdvantage: published by Standards & Poor’s, this is a comprehensive source of business and investment information, offering on-line access to popular Standard & Poor’s research products such as Industry Surveys, Stock Reports, Corporation Records, The Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives, The Outlook, Mutual Fund Reports among others.
HeritageQuest: Are you doing genealogical research? Then the online database HeritageQuest is for you! Founded in 1983, HeritageQuest is the largest genealogical data provider in the United States with over 250,000 titles. It is a collection of research materials for tracing family history and American culture that contains over 25,000 family records and local histories. This database assembles every extant U.S. federal census, banking and military records, genealogies, primary source materials, and genealogical and local history serials. So when you think of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library, think bigger than ‘books and information’ - think electronic resources and use your library card to access all of this information 24/7.
