Reading is so important and through summer reading programs, students can keep their reading skills sharp over the summer months. The Greene County Library invites children and teens to participate in a variety of summer reading activities that will be held June 9 - July 26.
Monday, June 9, 6 :00 - 8:00 pm will be the kick off party. Join the Library staff for all kinds of fun including the Moon Bounce, ice cream & other treats, face painting, live music, a story corner, a visit by The Cat In the Hat, and other amusements! And sign up for the Summer Reading Program: Catch the Reading Bug!
Children up to 11 can participate in the program and earn prizes just for reading or being read to. There will be story times for preschool children, programs for school age children, and family programs with professional performers.
The line-up of family programs includes:
•Bill Wellington - master musician, songwriter, and storyteller
•Drum Call & Friends - African drumming with Whit Whitten
•Whoo’s Awake in the Night? - Wildlife Center of Virginia introduces their nocturnal friends
Teens, 11 - 18 years of age, can participate in the Cheap Thrills summer reading program which will include great prizes as teens read, participate in book, movie, and anime discussion groups, creative writing workshops, game programs and a mystery event. Craft programs will also let teens put their creativity to good use.
There will also be “Creative Writing Classes for Young People” led by the Charlottesville Writing Center.
