August 7 is the birthday of radio host and storyteller Garrison Keillor, who has made a specialty of sharing the wisdom and humor of Midwestern life. Lutheran eccentricities and Norwegian delicacies have provided an endless supply of comedic material for the author, who has penned six novels about that famous town at the edge of the prairie, “where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking and all the children are above average.“
In addition to turning 66 this year, Keillor has written a new novel, Liberty, to be published in September, with more accounts of life in Lake Wobegon. Check out some of Garrison Keillor’s books at the Greene County Library.
• Pontoon: a Lake Wobegon novel
• The book of guys: stories
• Lake Wobegon summer 1956
• Homegrown democrat: a few plain thoughts from the heart of America
• Wobegon boy
• Good poems for hard times
• A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor: 30th broadcast season celebration (DVD)
