The Spotswood Trail Garden Club will have its annual plant sale Saturday, May 10 from 8 a.m. to 12-noon at the Rescue Squad Building.

JABA Greene County Senior Center is holding a flea market fundraiser Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to noon in the upper parking lot behind the JABA/Library building and the Lafayette Hotel just off Main Street in Stanardsville. The Habitat for Humanity spaghetti dinner will be Saturday, May 10, at Grace Episcopal Church from 5-7 p.m. Adults $7 and children 4-6, $4; carry out available. Regular and vegetarian lasagna also will be available.
There will be a Regional Transportation Summit to update our region’s long-range transportation plan, Saturday, May 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 12-noon, at Monticello High School, 1400 Independence Way, Charlottesville. The UnJAM 2035 Regional Summit, involving residents of Greene, Albemarle, Louisa, Fluvanna and Nelson counties, is hosted by the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission.

The regular meeting of the Rippin Run Garden Club will be held May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Greene County Extension Office. The program will be on beekeeping with Lonnie Tuthill as guest speaker. Also a workshop will be held. Additional information can be obtained by calling Janice Atkinson at 985-1522.

The Rapidan Service Authority will meet May 15 at 2 p.m. at Madison County Administrative Building on Main Street.

Come out and support your local rescue squad volunteers Saturday, May 17 from 3-7 p.m. Activities will include tour of facility, children’s activities, blood pressure checks, extrication demo, raffles, door prizes and musical entertainment. Teen Girls Book Group will meet at Greene County Library on Monday, May 19 from 7-8:30 p.m. Make new friends, discover new books; join us for our ongoing book group for teen girls ages 14 and up. Enjoy pizza as we discuss the book. Free copies of the books will be provided. Registration is ongoing.

The 2008 Spring Hill Baptist Church Tour de Greene events are Saturday, May 24. The run, walk and kid dash events start at 8 a.m. at Dover Foxcroft Farm and the bike rides are 25 miles, 41 miles and 62 miles and start at 7:30 a.m. with parking at Spring Hill Baptist Church. Come and join Spring Hill at Dover Foxcroft Farm, as we run and bike our way to a better education for Greene County. On Friday, May 30 the William Monroe Middle School eighth grade dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Eligible eighth graders can purchase tickets for $8 from their Core 1 teacher. Viva Las Vegas! is the theme, so play your cards right and join your classmates at this year’s dance. Parents interested in volunteering please call the school office at 985-5240.

Mark your calendar for the 18th annual Strawberry Festival by Stanardsville United Methodist Church scheduled for Saturday, May 31 at 7 a.m. We will be serving a delicious breakfast and lunch and lots of strawberry desserts; come early to purchase one of our delicious strawberry cakes or pies. On Court Square there will be vendors and crafters and under the big tent will be entertainment for the entire family. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the day in the heart of Stanardsville. All proceeds go to local missions including the Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity.
During the month of May the Greene County Food Bank is requesting donations of cereal. Donations can be dropped off at Social Services at 10009 Spotswood Trail (old Rt. 33) Stanardsville, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Your tax-deductible money donations for the food bank can be mailed to the Woman’s Club of Greene County, P.O. Spanish classes sponsored by International-Community.Org, will be offered every Friday through May 30 from 5 to 6 p.m. at The Church, 2504 Amicus Road, Stanardsville. The beginner’s level class will be taught by a bilingual Spanish teacher from Blue Ridge School. For info or to register call 985-7895.
During the month of May, the Madison-Greene Humane Society is offering free spays/neuters for feral cats (cats that cannot be handled). To schedule an appointment for these surgeries, call 540-948-3191. The Humane Society also has other low-cost spay/neuter programs available and will be happy to discuss those programs with those who are interested.

Spring Hill Baptist Church is holding a car show and chili cook-off Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you have a classic car, truck or motorcycle you would like to display at the show or if you would like to compete in the chili cook-off, call Tom at (434) 985-2780.
