During the month of October, the Greene County Food Bank is requesting donations of dried beans, cornbread mixes, and rice. Donations can be dropped off at Social Services at 10009 Spotswood Trail (old Rt. 33) Stanardsville, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Your tax-deductible money donations for the food bank can be mailed to the Womans Club of Greene County, PO Box 352, Stanardsville, VA 22973. The annual Toy Lift is coming. Creative Press, Printing, Signs & Graphics in Ruckersville is the official sponsored drop off site for the Toy Lift. This year we will have two buildings to house all the toys. Each building, donated by Capitol Sheds, is designated and open 24 hours for toys and books. Monetary contributions are accepted; make checks payable to Kids Lift Foundation. The locked drop-box is outside our front door. On Friday, December 5th at 2:00pm-5:00pm we will have Vinny’s Pizza pizza and refreshments for all and then we will load our sheds from the buildings to Tom Powell at Fashion Square. All are invited. The Greene County 4-H Pet Club will be sponsoring a tree to help pets in our area through a donation drive. We are asking the public to donate needed items such as canned or dry food, toys, blankets, cages, etc. We will then make sure they go to families and individuals with pets who are in need of a little extra help during the holiday season. We will collect items from now until 4pm on Dec.10 at the Extension Office. (Located at 10013 Spotswood Trail, next to Sheriff and Social Services) We will also hold two “Open Houses” on the first two Saturdays in Dec. (Dec. 6 and 13 from 2 to 4pm) These days are for collection of items only. All items will be distributed Dec. 15-20, either by pick-up or delivery. The 17th Annual Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be held on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, at Grace Episcopal Church on the corner of Main Street and Ford Avenue in Stanardsville. This festive, buffet dinner will be served in the church’s parish hall from noon until two o’ clock pm. Home delivery meals are also available. The Montpelier Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will meet December 4, at 11:00am at Mt. Nebo Lutheran Church, Rochelle for their Christmas Covered Dish Luncheon meeting. Bring your favorite covered dish to share. Each member is asked to bring a container of Homemade Christmas Goodies for the gift exchange. The program, “Our DAR Library-Finding Your Roots” will be presented by Sharon Steo, Chapter Registrar. She will also conduct a genealogical workshop at the meeting

The third annual Parade of Lights will take place Saturday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. on Main Street in Stanardsville. Entry forms can be obtained by visiting http://www.greenecoc.org or by stopping by Greene County Record.

JABA’s Greene County Community Center is in need of volunteers to teach arts and crafts on Tuesday or Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. This could be once a week, every two weeks or once a month, whatever works for you. You don’t need to be a trained artist or a master crafter, but if you love arts and crafts, and enjoy teaching the basics call Barbara Berger, Volunteer Coordinator or Sandra Davis, Center Supervisors at 434-985-2047.

The JABA Greene County Senior Center meets every Tuesday and Wednesday in the Senior Center/Library Building, Main St., Stanardsville, from 8 a.m. to noon. The program includes lunch, nurse visits, health and nutrition info, bingo, shopping trips, musical entertainment and the Craft Club on Wednesday afternoons.
