November 6
During the month of November, the Greene County Food Bank is requesting donations of canned vegetables and fruits.  Donations can be dropped off at Social Services at 10009 Spotswood Trail (old Rt. 33) Stanardsville, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Your tax-deductible money donations for the food bank can be mailed to the Womans Club of Greene County, PO Box 352, Stanardsville, VA 22973.  For more information, contact Nancy at 985-5063. 

Want to be an effective parent?  Frustrated as a parent? Want to encourage confidence, responsibility, cooperation and faithful living for your children? Join a small group of parents for five sessions exploring parenting children and teens for confidence, responsibility, cooperation, positive discipline and faithful living.  Sessions will meet for ninety minutes on Wednesday evenings at Blue Ridge Church beginning on October 16 and ending in mid-November.  For more information, contact Jay Sanderford at BRPC, (434) 985-8820 or .  Child care will be available by arrangement.

The Greene County 4-H Pet Club will be sponsoring a tree to help pets in our area through a donation drive. We will collect items from now until 4pm on Dec.10 at the Extension Office. (Located at 10013 Spotswood Trail, next to Sheriff and Social Services) We will also hold two “Open Houses” on the first two Saturdays in Dec. (Dec. 6 and 13 from 2 to 4pm) These days are for collection of items only. November 8
The Blue Ridge School will be hosting a pasta and spaghetti dinner on Sat. Nov. 8 from 5:00-7:00pm. Proceeds will benefit Greene Co. Habitat for Humanity. The Blue Ridge School choir and Blue Grace will be providing the musical entertainment while you dine. Guided tours will also be provided of the grounds and beautiful stone chapel. Cost for the all-you0can- eat dinner is $7.00 for adults, $4.00 ages 2-5 and children under 2 are free! Come and enjoy the breathtaking surroundings and support those in need in Greene County.

Nathaneal Greene Elementary School will be sponsoring FAMILY FUN BINGO NIGHT! Prizes will include cool toys such as bicycles, IPOD, and a Wii game system. 22 games for $5. Food will be available. 5K Run Walk Kids Dash, Saturday, Nov. 8, 8am at the Blue Ridge School in Dyke. Registration: $15 if registered by Nov. 6, $25 Race Day registration, $25 race with a friend rate (2 people), $30 Family registration (parents and children). The Rippin Run Garden Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be held November 11 at 7:30pm at the Greene County Extension Office. November 13
The Montpelier Daughters of the American Revolution will join Louisa Court House Chapter DAR for their Annual Defense Luncheon on November 13 at 11:30a.m. at the Mineral Baptist Church. November 15
The Greene County Taxpayers Assoc. will hold a Spaghetti Dinner on Nov. 15 from 4pm-7pm. at the American Legion/Greene Co. Taxpayers Bldg. Rt 230. All you can eat spaghetti, salad, bread, drinks and desert. Adults $6, children 3-12, $3, and under 3 is free.

There will be a one-day DMV-approved defensive driving class at the Hornet Sports Center on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Five points will be awarded for successful completion of this eight-hour course. The Greene County Youth Center will be hosting 2 more ball tournaments this year.  On November 15th there will be a regular softball co-rec tournament starting at 9, with 4 games guaranteed (play 2 games then go to double elimination).
On December 13th there will be a Co-Rec Big Ball tournament starting at 9, with 4 games guaranteed (play 2 games then go to double elimination).  Both men and women will be hitting the big ball, men will hit the 16 inch and women will hit the 14 inch. The FFA has begun its annual citrus fruit sales.  The sale helps support yearly activities and trips for the FFA.  Orders will be taken through November 17th.  Anyone Interested in buying fruit, see an FFA member or call the WMHS Agriculture Dept

November 19

November 20
Blood is needed! The Women’s Committee of Greene County Farm Bureau is sponsoring a blood drive from 3-7 p.m. Nov. 20th from 3-7 p.m. inside Stanardsville Firehouse. Please donate - you may save a life

December 6
The third annual Parade of Lights will take place Saturday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. on Main Street in Stanardsville. Entry forms can be obtained by visiting http://www.greenecoc.org or by stopping by Greene County Record.

GCPR Volunteers Needed:  Some duties are seasonal and others occur throughout the year.  So, if you have a day now and then and would like to become a GCPR volunteer please contact Julius Bates at 434-985-5226.

JABA’s Greene County Community Center is in need of volunteers to teach arts and crafts on Tuesday or Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. This could be once a week, every two weeks or once a month, whatever works for you. You don’t need to be a trained artist or a master crafter, but if you love arts and crafts, and enjoy teaching the basics call Barbara Berger, Volunteer Coordinator or Sandra Davis, Center Supervisors at 434-985-2047.

The Greene County Historical Society Museum, Court Square, is open on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come see the exhibits and use the genealogy database on family research.


Are you a teen Mom? Have you heard of teen MOPS? We are planning a new Teen Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group in Orange. Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline is looking for fun, creative adults to volunteer as leaders for the girls of Greene County. There’s a need to help foster future leaders, the Girl Scouts in Greene. Join us for Preschool Storytime at Greene County Library every Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. for ages 2-5 with siblings welcome. Enjoy lots of stories, songs, finger-plays and puppet shows, with a craft each week that your child can take home. No registration necessary.
 

The Book Discussion Group meets the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room.
