During the month of July, the Greene County Food Bank is requesting donations of canned green beans and canned corn. Donations can be dropped off at Social Services at 10009 Spotswood Trail (old Rt. 33), Stanardsville, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Your tax-deductible money donations for the food bank can be mailed to the Woman’s Club of Greene County, P. July 4
It’s that time of year again; time to start planning the annual July 4 parade sponsored by STAR. If you would like to volunteer or participate call Beth at 985-6226.

Friday morning, July 4, Better Living Inc., the Charlottesville Track Club and the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville will present the 25th annual Independence Day 5K Race at Forest Lakes, North Subdivision. For the third straight year, proceeds will benefit Camp Holiday Trails, a camp for children with special health needs.

On July 4, following the parade, a Habitat for Humanity barbecue fundraiser will be held at Stanardsville United Methodist Church, 25 Court Street, across from the Courthouse, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come inside, cool off and purchase a lunch of homemade pork barbecue, baked beans, cole slaw, chips, beverage and dessert for $8 for adults; $4 for children two-six and for children under two, free. Strawberry slurpees will be available for $1.50. Tickets can be purchased at-the-door. Habitat’s jump house will be available for the children to enjoy. Come help us build the next Habitat for Humanity house here in Greene County.

July 4-5
Solid Rock Full Gospel Church, 3580 Spotswood Trail, Barboursville, invites everyone to the Freedom Revival 2008 on Friday and Saturday, July 4-5 starting at 4 p.m. both evenings. Bring your lawn chair and come and join us in celebrating and thanking God for the freedom we have and for our country. If you like southern gospel music, good fellowship and good food you won’t want to miss this great event. There is no admission charge, a free-will offering gratefully accepted. July 5
There will be a one-day DMV-approved defensive driving class at Orange County High School Field House Saturday, July 5 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Five points awarded for successful completion of this eight-hour course; no pre-registration required and walk-ins are welcome. The Battle of Stanardsville Reenactment planning meeting will be held Monday, July 7 at 7 p.m. at the EDA Office. For more information call 985-2660 or 825-4478.

July 12
A lawn party will be held at South River Church on Saturday, July 12 beginning at 4 p.m. There will be fried chicken, country ham, mutton and lots of veggies and desserts. Please join us.

The Greene County Rescue Squad will hold a yard sale Saturday, July 12 beginning at 8 a.m. at 9845 Spotswood Trail, Stanardsville. To donate please bring items that are clean and in working order to the squad building by July 7. For details call 434-996-6123.

Is your son interested in playing youth football? Boys ages 8 to 13 are needed to participate in the area youth football league. Thomas Jefferson Youth Football League is currently enrolling for the fall season. Blood is needed! The Women’s Committee of Greene County Farm Bureau is sponsoring the following blood drives in 2008. On Sept. 11 from 3-7 p.m. and Nov. 13 from 3-7 p.m. inside the Stanardsville Firehouse. Please donate - you may save a life.

The JABA Greene County Senior Center meets every Tuesday and Wednesday in the Senior Center/Library Building, Main St., Stanardsville, from 8 a.m. to noon. The program includes lunch, nurse visits, health and nutrition info, bingo, shopping trips, musical entertainment and the Craft Club on Wednesday afternoons.
