Thursday, June 12 at 7 p.m. there will be a Flag Burning with the help of American Legion Post 128 and Boy Scout Troop 174 at Ruckersville Fire Department. Spring Hill Baptist Church, 2620 Frays Mill Road, Ruckersville, is holding a car show and chili cook-off Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (weather permitting). Shepherd of the Hills, Amicus Road, Quinque, is hosting an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner for Greene County Habitat for Humanity Saturday, June 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children. All are welcome. For more details contact 434-985-3929.

The 81st annual Powell Reunion will be held Sunday, June 15 at South River Picnic Grounds on Skyline Drive. Come early and visit with relatives and friends. Bring a picnic lunch and drinks; lunch served at 1 p.m. In the event of rain, the reunion will be held at Nathanael Greene Elementary School, Stanardsville, just past the shopping center on Business 33. A free Greene County TRIAD Workshop for all seniors over 50 will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18 at the JABA Senior Center, Library Building, Stanardsville, with guest speaker, Gail Berry, Greene County Treasurer. If you have questions call Beverly at 434-990-0225.

The Greene County Farmers Market, sponsored by Greene County Ruritans, will be offering fresh produce for sale starting Saturday, June 21. Farmers and gardeners are urged to bring their produce to the Greene County Technical Center parking lot, where they can set up at no charge. Once the market gets underway, sellers and buyers will be able to chat with Master Gardeners in attendance, as well as their neighbors. For more details call Bob Burkholder at (434) 882-1324.
The 4-H Pet Club is proud to announce its fifth annual “Pet Fashion Revue” will be held Saturday, June 21 from 3 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to dress-up their pets and join us for a lot of fun. We have over 40 different categories for judging as well as “Judges Choice, Peoples Choice and Best in Show;” all entries will win at least one award. More information will be announced closer to the event. This year’s show will be held on Celt Road, approximately 2.6 miles on the right just past Columbia Gas Plant. Wednesdays Film Series at Greene Library is June 25 at 7 p.m. Funded by Friends of Greene County Library, these are award-winning, first run, independent and foreign films from top festivals, shown on the big screen in surround sound in the library meeting room. Come out, it’s free, fun, join friends, sip some coffee and watch a great film and join in a discussion afterwards. These films have not been rated by MPAA and should be assumed to have mature content.

Blood is needed! The Women’s Committee of Greene County Farm Bureau is sponsoring the following blood drives in 2008. On June 28 from 9 a.m.-12-noon in parking lot of Vo-Tech School; Sept. 11 from 3-7 p.m. and Nov. 13 from 3-7 p.m. inside Stanardsville Firehouse. Please donate - you may save a life.

During the month of June the Greene County Food Bank is requesting donations of peanut butter and jelly. Donations can be dropped off at Social Services at 10009 Spotswood Trail (old Rt. 33) Stanardsville, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Your tax-deductible money donations to the food bank can be mailed to the Woman’s Club of Greene County, P.O. Applications for the 2008-2009 school year are now being accepted for the Skyline CAP Head Start program in Greene County, open to preschool children three to five years old. Children must have turned at least three years of age by Sept. 30. Those with special needs are encouraged to apply. Skyline CAP Head Start is a free program for income eligible families.
