One only has to face reality that we live in a world full of hostility. From the history of the Bible, as well as secular history, there have been numerous wars recorded. Our Lord said, “And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come and pass, but the end is not,“ Matthew 24:6. Yes, until the end, that is the coming of Christ in glory to establish His kingdom, there will be wars and rumors of wars. It is when He sets up His kingdom that “they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more,“ Isaiah 2:4.
Should Christians bare arms? Abraham, whom the Bible speaks of as “the father of al them that believe,“ certainly believed in baring arms. When the aggressive King Chedorlaomer conducted a raid on neighboring countries, Abraham “armed his trained servants three hundred and eighteen from his own house and pursued” the enemy. Abraham was prepared for war (his servants were trained and armed), and he responded to the aggressive King Chedorlaomer (ref. Genesis 14).November 11 was Veteran’s Day; and all across our country, we gave honor to those who have fought for the liberties that we enjoy. Until our Lord comes, may the faith of Abraham and the reality of the truth that there will be wars motivate our nation’s people to continue to support out military. May God bless our men and women who serve.
