“Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.” II John 8.
The word wrought in our text verse means the things which we have labored and for which we have worked. Now we do not work to be saved; for Biblical teaching is clear on this matter. Ephesians 2:8-9 states, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Our text verse is not talking about losing one’s salvation; but rather, it is about not losing those things for which we have labored and worked so that we might “receive a full reward.” Yes, our Lord will reward His saints for their labor and work that they do for Him. “If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon he shall receive a reward.” I Corinthians 3:14.
Salvation is God’s gift, bought by the precious blood of Jesus Christ, and given freely to all who will receive this gracious gift. Rewards are given to those who faithfully serve Him. We can lose out on receiving a full reward if we become unfaithful in our lives and service.
