If you would like to have a food drive to replenish our emergency supply, we would be grateful. Even though one church is bringing us food donations every Tuesday, and another enough of one item to give out each month, our emergency food level is staying very low right now due to the increase in need. Our current emergency need is for families where someone has been laid off, or are temporarily disabled. When the plants closed in May, everyone we served found another job in a couple of weeks, but the waiting period is getting longer now. Supplemental food is giving on a monthly basis for those with long-term needs.
STAPLES: If you can help, our staples are: Salmon, tuna, beef stew, two cans each of green beans, peas, sliced potatoes, carrots, tomatoes; leafy greens such as spinach, fruit (pears, peaches, mixed) one each of: cereal, soup, peanut butter, spaghetti noodles and sauce. To add variety, we will give out anything you give us, and extras such as boxes of Macaroni and cheese, muffin mix, and desserts are always appreciated by our clients.
ABOUT: The Food Pantry was established in 1994, is the only USDA distribution center in Greene County and is sponsored by the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network, Inc. and the Stanardsville Baptist Church . Additional support comes from a number of churches, individuals, and organizations in the area. In the midst of this economic crisis, we could use your help, also.
DONATIONS: For tax deductible donations, make your check payable to The SBC Food Pantry, and mail to PO Box 13, Stanardsville, VA 22973 or bring food donations directly to The Food Pantry at 103 Madison Road, #6, left lower level of the church.
For more information please call Carroll Sullivan, Director, at the Food Pantry weekdays from 8-12. Afternoon voice messages will be returned the next morning. Open for emergencies only from 10-12 on Tues and Thu mornings. Supplemental distributions made monthly on the 3rd Wednesday from 4-6, by appointment only.
