Registration continues through Sept. 19 for the third Women in Worship Conference (2008) to be held at Hospitality House and Conference Center in Fredericksburg on Sept. 26-27 sponsored by Wayland Blue Ridge Women’s Auxiliary and Friends. The conference check-in on Friday begins at 10 a.m. and the Expo with vendors and mini-informational sessions begin at noon. Guest speaker is Cynthia Brazelton, Victory Christian Ministries, Washington, DC and vicinity; also the Rev. Tammie Armstead Pulliam and the Rev. Janice Steels, Victory in Christ Ministries. Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, Route 810, Dyke Road, two miles from Route 33 on left, will have a fall yard sale Saturday, Sept. 27 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church shelter. Bargains galore as well as hot dogs, baked goods and funnel cake.

Fellowship Baptist Church, 725 Gate Road, Madison, will be hosting the “One Nation Under God” program each Sunday Sept. 28-Oct. 26. Children, teens and adults can come together to celebrate our American history and heritage that is so often left out in our public schools and arenas. Area youth are invited to showcase their talent in the first “The Gospel” youth talent showcase Friday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Wayland Blue Ridge Baptist Center, 15044 Ryland Chapel Road, Rixeyville. There are five categories: solo, duo/group, dance/step, spoken word and instrumentalists; winners awarded trophies as determined by local area judges. Westover United Methodist Church Fall Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 25 beginning at 8 a.m. Bruce Johnson will be making Brunswick stew in a big iron kettle and grilled hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available beginning at 11:30. The stew can be ordered in advance at $10 per quart or you can enjoy a bowl at church. Entertainers announced later; spaces for rent, bring own tables for items you may have to sell. Food is provided and prepared by Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church, Mt. Vernon, Stanardsville, Mountain View and Westover United Methodist churches, Spring Hill Baptist Church, Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church and other service organizations.
