Fun and educational activities for all ages will be offered at the Greene County Fair, courtesy of Virginia Cooperative Extension. At the Virginia Cooperative Extension tent, located near the livestock tent and petting zoo, fairgoers of all ages will be able to learn about gardening, canning, forestry, wildlife, and agriculture and a variety of 4-H projects and activities. Tuesday, Aug. 12 is Master Gardener Night-learn about the Virginia Cooperative Master Gardeners, their upcoming training sessions, and get information and tips about gardening. Spice up your evening with a free sample of fresh salsa courtesy of Tracy Nedza, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, and learn about upcoming classes in canning and food preservation! 4-H will offer activities for kids and samples of healthy snacks.
On Wednesday night, join the Master Naturalists for information on wildlife, forestry and environmental conservation. Our 4-H members will be hosting a forestry contest open to all ages. Thursday is Agriculture Night…More than Cows and Crops and will feature displays and information related to new and different trends in agriculture. Agriculture agent Cathy Kloetzli will offer a demonstration on how to raise your own shitake mushrooms and other hands-on demonstrations and activities for kids and adults. Greene County 4-H will sponsor a brief Stockman’s contest, open to everyone from 7-10 p.m., as well as a Virginia Agriculture Trivia Contest.
